Angela Doughty

Attorney Angela Doughty has been appointed Chair of the Privacy & Data Security Section of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA). This new role follows her previous position as vice Chair. Her one-year term began on July 1.

Angela brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role. Holding the designation of Certified Information Privacy Professional-United States (CIPP/US), she has demonstrated a profound understanding of U.S. privacy laws and regulations. Her experience as an AI Governance Professional further highlights her ability to navigate the intricate ethical and regulatory frameworks related to artificial intelligence and privacy.

Her specialized training and certification in privacy law enable her to provide valuable guidance on all aspects of privacy and security regulations. This includes developing and implementing compliance strategies, handling data breaches or security incidents, drafting privacy notices and policies, and negotiating with clients and vendors. Angela is well-versed in state and federal regulations such as HIPAA, HITECH, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, FCRA, CAN-SPAM, COPPA, GDPR, and other international data transfer mechanisms.

In addition to her role with the NCBA, Angela leads Ward and Smith's Intellectual Property Practice Group and serves as the firm's Director of Legal Innovation. Her leadership in these areas underscores her commitment to advancing privacy and security standards in the legal community.
