Angela Doughty Earns Inaugural AI Governance Professional Certification from IAPP

Attorney Angela Doughty, CIPP/US, recently earned the AI Governance Professional (AIGP) certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). As one of the inaugural recipients of the AIGP certification, she stands at the forefront of promoting and guiding responsible AI practices and governance.

As a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Trademark Law and Certified Privacy Professional, Angela leads Ward and Smith's Intellectual Property, Privacy and Data Security, and Artificial Intelligence Practice Groups. This intersection of expertise in intellectual property and privacy enhances her understanding and insight into the legal implications of AI development and deployment.

As the firm's Director of Legal Innovation, Angela focuses on embracing new technologies while ensuring compliance and ethical standards are met. With the AIGP certification, she is well-positioned to establish robust AI governance frameworks that prioritize accountability, transparency, and responsible AI practices.

The IAPP is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board under the International Organization for Standardization 17024: 2012.  The AIGP certification is valid for two years and requires recertification through continuing education credits.
