Governor Roy Cooper has appointed attorney Jamie Norment as Chair of the Tryon Palace Commission.

This prestigious appointment recognizes Jamie's long-standing dedication to preserving and promoting North Carolina's rich history. In this role, Jamie will lead a commission of up to 25 appointed members from across the state. The Commission is responsible for supervising an endowment, managing the Tryon Palace artifacts, and issuing regulations governing the use of Tryon Palace.

Jamie's involvement with Tryon Palace spans many years, including his previous roles as Vice Chair of the Commission and a board member of the Tryon Palace Foundation. During his tenure with the Foundation, he made significant contributions, serving on its Executive, Finance, Audit, and Nominating Committees.

"It's an honor to serve as Chair of the Tryon Palace Commission," said Norment. "Tryon Palace is a cornerstone of North Carolina's history, offering a window into our past and a legacy that inspires future generations. I look forward to working with the Commission to continue preserving and celebrating this vital part of our state's heritage."

Located in New Bern, Tryon Palace is North Carolina's first permanent state capitol. A reconstruction of the original colonial manor house built in the 1760s for royal governor William Tryon, this historic site serves as a living museum. It captivates visitors with beautifully restored grounds, immersive exhibits, and engaging educational programs that bring history to life.
