Media Mention: Attorney Kristin Mitcham Recognized in Legal Aid of North Carolina Pro Bono Newsletter

Kristin Mitcham

Real estate attorney Kristin Mitcham was recently spotlighted in the Legal Aid of North Carolina Pro Bono Update Newsletter for her dedicated service to a nonprofit organization in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Kristin, who practices in the firm's Raleigh office, put her legal skills to work for a Clay County nonprofit seeking to provide temporary housing for storm survivors. The organization had a limited window in which it could offer shelter and needed legal guidance to avoid unintentionally becoming long-term landlords.

"A few weeks after the storm, the head of the nonprofit contacted Joseph Chilton, supervising attorney in our Smoky Mountain Offices, for help," the newsletter explained. "Since our staff primarily represent tenants, Joseph contacted our Pro Bono Programs team to see if a pro bono volunteer could help."

Kristin quickly volunteered and drafted occupancy agreements that clearly defined the temporary nature of the housing arrangements.

“The clients expressed a deep appreciation and satisfaction for all that Kristin did for them,” said Allison Constance, Director of Pro Bono Programs for Legal Aid of North Carolina. “And we are equally appreciative of her service. Thank you, Kristin!”
