Ward and Smith attorney Mike McIntyre has been honored with the North Carolina Beach, Inlet, and Waterway Association's (NCBIWA) Hero of the Coast Award.

Presented during NCBIWA’s Annual Fall Conference in Wilmington, NC, this prestigious accolade celebrates McIntyre’s exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to protecting and preserving North Carolina’s coastal communities.
The Hero of the Coast Award is one of the highest honors presented by NCBIWA. It recognizes individuals or organizations who exemplify determination, leadership, and passion in advancing the mission of protecting North Carolina’s coastline.
Upon receiving the award, McIntyre expressed his gratitude and passion for the cause:

McIntyre's dedication to shoreline protection is one of his most notable achievements. As highlighted in a Ward and Smith feature, he has tirelessly advocated for federal funding and bipartisan support for beach nourishment and shoreline stabilization projects. His efforts have bolstered North Carolina’s coastal defenses against erosion and rising sea levels, directly impacting the resilience and vitality of these communities.
As a former U.S. Congressman and now Senior Advisor for Government Relations and Economic Development at Ward and Smith, McIntyre continues to advocate for North Carolina’s coastal communities. His ability to bring together federal, state, and local stakeholders has been crucial in driving progress and ensuring long-term coastal preservation.
