Attorney Angela Doughty was recently named Vice-Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) Privacy & Data Security Section.
Angela brings extensive expertise to her position, having chaired and served on the executive committee of the Intellectual Property Law Section and serving as Co-Chair of the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legalization's Trademark Law Specialty Committee.
Trained and certified in privacy law, Angela offers valued counsel on all facets of privacy and safety regulations—from designing and instituting compliance plans to addressing data breaches or security incidents, writing out privacy notices and policies, and negotiating with clients and vendors. She is knowledgeable in state and federal regulations like HIPAA, HITECH, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, FCRA, CAN-SPAM, COPPA, GDPR, and other international data transfer mechanisms. Angela also leads Ward and Smith's Intellectual Property Practice Group and is the firm's Director of Legal Innovation.
The Privacy & Data Security Section strives to assist its members in navigating privacy concerns and educating them on modern data privacy laws in North Carolina.
