Amy P. Wang
Ms. Wang's practice focuses primarily on environmental regulatory and compliance matters with an emphasis on coastal regulation and environmental aspects of real estate and business transactions. She routinely advises clients, consultants, and professionals on federal, state, and local laws concerning the areas of coastal development, stormwater management, and various related permitting programs, including North Carolina's Coastal Area Management Act ("CAMA") and the Federal Clean Water Act. Ms. Wang combines her knowledge of regulatory law with traditional litigation skills to represent clients in administrative actions involving both governmental agencies and private parties. In addition to representing clients with respect to environmental matters, Ms. Wang advises clients on matters related to zoning and land use and sustainable development and green building practices. Her representative experience includes defending stormwater and CAMA permits against administrative and judicial challenges; advising an eastern North Carolina county during the Environmental Protection Agency's implementation of its revised ozone attainment designations; assisting corporate clients with projects facing environmental assessment, express permitting, zoning and enforcement issues; and assisting developers and community associations with the transfer of stormwater permits. Ms. Wang is an accredited Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ("LEED") Green Associate, a distinction she earned through the Green Building Certification Institute. As a LEED Green Associate, she has a substantial understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED rating system. She also chairs Ward and Smith's Green Initiative which builds and promotes environmentally sustainable professional practices within the Firm.
